In development: The Observers

The Observers is a contemporary dance quartet that physicalises our relationship with surveillance. In this piece the dancers' heads are wrapped, hiding their real eyes. A faux eye is placed in each palm, emulating a symbolism found across global religions, cultures and mythologies. This powerful imagery creates flexibility in the dramaturgy of the work. A pair of hands can rise from a tangle of bodies and merge them into an individual. Emotions and even blinking can be portrayed through the motion of the hands and fingers.
Separating the eyes from the face highlights the power we associate with the organ and our biological understanding of what it means to be under its gaze.
